Jim Davenport
Artist - Biography
                         Born January 1, 1945 in Tillamook Oregon.
   Jim has spent most of his life in the valleys, mountains, and beaches of western Oregon.
   Jim's Father, Grandfather, and great grandfather were all commercial fishermen and his older brother has commercial fished as well..........thanks to the Coast Guard thay all survived the sea, his brother lives aboard his sailboat to this day.
   Jim grew up close to nature and the sea. His great respect and love for both are reflected in his art.
   Early in life it became apparent to Jim and his teachers that art was an area he should pursue, by the time he reached high school he was excelling in art.
   As fate would have it Jim's life went in other directions . He kept at his art in his spare time, learning a little here and there, It wasn't until he reached 40 that he made a promise to himself to pursue the things in life that he truly enjoyed, He began studying and working with more vigor buying more art supplies and trying new approaches.
   Jim has been a member of the Bay Area Artist Association since their beginning. He took all the workshops, and learned all he could from many of the fine artist in the area. He has joined in on many of the paint outs and participated in numerous art shows. Also he has served as vice president and held two terms as president of the association. At present he is a board member at the Coos Art Museum and is active with the Art & Education program at the Museum bringing Art back to the Schoolrooms and the kids in both Coos Bay and North Bend School districts. Jim says " teaching the kids in their School or in the class room at the Art Museum is great fun and very rewarding to me. I love to see their little faces light up when they see what they can do".
   Jim is a member of A.S.M.A. (American Society of Marine Artists ).  Jim is also a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla 51 of Coos Bay.
   Jim and his wife Archina currently own and operate Cottonwood Studios, A Gallery of fine Art and Photography in Coos Bay.
